A Weekend in South Florida

This weekend we visited Fort Lauderdale. A few months ago Dave won a 2 night stay and the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort in a charity poker tournament. That place is super fabulous! They have a great beach with free beach chairs. You can also rent cushions and umbrellas. They bring you food and drinks right on the beach. There is a huge pool surrounded by waterfalls. And I think there were 3 or 4 restaurants on site. The rooms were pretty big too. We were super impressed! And 90% of the staff were extra friendly.
When we arrived on Friday we found out that the Denver Broncos were staying at the hotel as well. And they were about to arrive. You see the main reason we choose this weekend was so that we could go to the Dolphins Broncos game on Sunday. I am sure you all remember Dave’s obsession with Tim Tebow when he played for the Gators. He is a Bronco now. And Dave is still obsessed. I think we ran into every Bronco except Timmy. They were all over the hotel all weekend.
Anyways…there are other things to talk about besides Timmy T. On Friday we stumbled upon and big charity event for the Childrens Miracle Network on site. So we went in for a bit. It started about 2 hours before we arrived so there was hardly any food left. But there were lots of drinks! We befriended the Florida Regional Manager for Belvedere at the event. She was super cool. After a few cocktails and a hand rolled cigar (Dave…not me…yuck!) we went to the hotel bar for some food. It was 10:30pm so nothing else was open. Our Belvedere friend was there too. She was so nice. She bought us dinner, drinks and shots…oh my. We made some new friends and the bar and then I was done.
Saturday we lounged on the beach all day and took a Hobie boat thing out for a bit. The water was rough and it was windy. Dave was determined to flip us…he did not. But somehow in between holding on for dear life and trying not to spill Dave’s drink we managed to take some pictures. We had dinner on the beach that night. It was cold and windy. But still a nice dinner. After that we drove over to Las Olas for some ice cream. There must have been a street fair going on there during the day because the roads were closed and full of empty vendor tents. That kind of ruined Las Olas for the night. So we went back to the room to watch football after ice cream.
Sunday was game day. I was up early and while waiting for Mr. Sleepyhead to get up I ventured down to Starbucks in the lobby. Me in my Dolphins attire and 4 huge Denver Broncos football dudes all in the elevator for 9 floors. That wasn’t awkward or anything. When we got the lobby to check out the whole team was leaving for the game. Still no Timmy.
We loaded up on tailgate essentials at Publix and headed to Sunlife stadium. While there I saw on Facebook that some friends were there as well. We invited them to join us for a burger. Fun times! As for the game…well, the Dolphins are 0-6. They were winning the whole game and then they lost is all in the last 2 minutes. Dave was all sorts of confused. He cheered for the Dolphins and Tebow. There were more fans in Gator gear than Dolphins gear. I do not get Florida’s obsession with Tebow. FYI…if you start to bash Tebow Dave will run up 12 rows just to yell at you in your face.…twice. Save me some trouble and don’t talk bad about Tebow if Dave is within a earshot. At one point the entire stadium was chanting Tebow sucks. Dave almost cried. It was a long drive home after the game.

The hotel wanted to make sure Diamond Dave was not bothered with people wanting his autograph.

I would love to have seen Dave defend Timmy's honor! Looks like you didn't melt this time around, good times.
