Some People...

Something strange is going on here. I went to a spin class yesterday and body pump the day before and they were half empty. It is like the gym twilight zone. This is so not normal for January. Usually the gym is full of resolutioners who fill up the classes and then sit there and talk and don’t move throughout the whole thing. I will say that the parking lot is fuller and there were two people sitting on weight equipment eating cookies and drinking coke. Who does that? It is not nearly as bad as gyms I have gone to in the past. I think it is because I now go to one of those big gyms that only serious workout people go to. I can see how a newbie would be intimidated.

I have no problem with people joining a gym and hitting it full force in January of every year if they are serious about it. As long as you follow the rules and are respectful of others I am totally fine with it. I may never even realize you are new. What I do have a problem with is those people who do nothing but take up space for a few weeks only to disappear for the next 11 months. The people who sit on the exercise equipment talking on the phone while I am waiting to use it. The people who bring in bottles of Sprite to spin class and then leave after 10 minutes looking like they are going to pass out. Sugar drinks will do that to you. The people who save equipment for their friend for who is running 30 minutes late only to have said friend finally show up and use it for 5 minutes. The people who try pilates for 10 minutes do nothing but talk out loud about how it sucks and cause a big commotion when they leave. The people who drive around the parking lot for 20 minutes looking for a place close to the door so they don’t have to walk far. Who are these people kidding? They won’t last. Not with those attitudes. Getting in shape is as much mental as it is physical. Some people say showing up is half the battle. I disagree. Stepping foot in a gym does nothing for you if you are drinking sugar and sitting still. We’ll say it is 10% of the battle.

So if you are serious about it follow the rules, be polite/considerate and ask for help if you need it. And for goodness sakes if you start a class and decide it is not for you then leave quietly without a huge disturbance. I’ve done it a few times. FYI…Body Combat will kill you. And one other side note. I know all of us regulars are annoyed about the resolutioners but let’s not talk bad about them right in front of them. Some of them will last and I would hate to make them feel bad. I am not a fan of spreading hate. But if you see someone eating cookies while sitting on a treadmill I suggest you slap them. I know…I am contradicting myself. I will be the first to admit it. The nice side of my brain is arguing with the common sense side.

Our gym brings in free pizza the first Monday night of every month. It totally DRIVES Brad INSANE! LOL! It's a Planet Fitness so it's suppose to be of those places that doesn't judge but I too, think it's odd.
