Just before the Superbowl started Dave was telling me about all the bets he made in some pick ‘em league. One of them was whether or not Madonna would wear a hat. He took the hat. I told him that was nonsense. She came out in a gold crown. Technically that was a hat. Dave was right. Anyone surprised?
I was very impressed with the halftime show. For someone who is 53 Madonna still rocked it. And I loved all the cameos. I thought it was a great way to keep the younger generation interested. I love Nicki Minaj. She is just fun. LMFAO is far from musically talented but entertaining nonetheless. MIA cracked me up. She looked like she was not having any of the dancing. This was very obvious when she flipped off the world. Would you expect anything else from someone who sings about how she “packs and delivers like a UPS truck”. This year’s show was so much better than last year’s Black Eyed Peas debacle. And The Who??? I could not tell you anything about that one. I changed the channel. And we all know that the 2001 half time show was the best ever. If you don’t know why google it.
For the most part I think everyone 30 and older loved it. I mean, it was Madonna for cryin’ out loud. And from my view anyone 23-29 was not that impressed but in a somewhat respectful way. Most of them did not grow up with the Madonna that we did. They will never know the controversy behind the Like a Prayer video. And for those of you 22 and under…the world does not revolve around you. Get over yourselves. Lose that sense of entitlement. I have no idea where it came from but it is extremely unattractive. Now keep in mind I am not talking about everyone 22 and under, only about 75% of them. What this generation needs to come to terms with is that the Superbowl is not about them. They are the ones who drink so much they cannot remember who won the game. They cannot afford a $900 ticket to the game. They would however expect Mommy and Daddy to hand them one. They cannot afford to buy any of the cars advertised in the commercials. I doubt they have any idea what E Trade does. And most of them cannot legally buy beer. So yes, I am talking to you Mr. 19 year old that knows everything. There is a major event that does not cater to you and is not about you. So why in the world would the halftime show consist of some untalented no name band that only your generation has heard of? I can promise you that band will not be headlining the Superbowl when they are 53.
Now…next year….please bring out Britney and U2 on stage together. And maybe a cameo by Lady Gaga. And if Tebow plays in the game our lives will then be complete

I love your enthusiasm for all things enertainment!
I second that, Dee!
I loved it. Thought she was fantastic. Sick of people's tacky comments like, "That looked like my grandma flirting with the pool boy."
First, she looked like she was 30. Maybe. Second, if that were a man performing, no one would even remark on his age.
I hate people.
I AM 22 and I agree 100%. And a big "F.U." to the people who were acting that way, since I was stuck at work all night waiting on the drinkers and saw mere snippets of the game.
Like you said, I didn't grow up with Madonna, and so admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of her, but I was beyond impressed with her performance. I HOPE I can pull something like that off when I'm 53!
Lastly, to be completely honest, I loathe pretty much all the "music"/noise of my generation. I know a lot of people like her, but personally, I feel Lady Gaga goes a little TOO far to TRY and be different, that it just makes her weird. I'm glad they chose Madonna, and even The Who two years ago, and Tom Petty before that. Anyone who actually appreciates music wouldn't make a big deal about it either, because what the radios are pumping out today isn't music. I was thinking about it when one of my friends at work was whining during the game about their performer choice... If it were up to me, I'd have no choice but to go with earlier artists. No one from today that's actually deserving of the halftime show spot even comes to mind.
Great post! Love the Dave bits too, hehe! (Sorry for this essay!)
Madonna did look great - I agree with that, although I am not a fan of hers (I grew up with her and liked her as a kid) ... I thought the cheerleader skit was odd. I did like the cameos and mix in of other entertainers. I am not sure who I would want to see up there ...I agree with your your viewpoint on the younger generation and the entitlement ... drives me nuts!
